The Massapequa Water District is proud to present this year's Water Quality Report to all residents. This report fulfills Federal and State regulations requiring distribution to all District occupants. The Board of Commissioners is pleased to confirm that our water meets all Federal, State, and County standards with no violations.

Our ongoing mission is to deliver safe, reliable water every day while continuously improving treatment processes and protecting our water resources. The Board and staff are dedicated to ensuring your family receives the highest quality water possible.

Our water comes from nine groundwater wells drilled into the Magothy aquifer beneath Long Island. The water quality from this aquifer in Massapequa is generally excellent. Water sources (including tap and bottled water) can contain various substances as they travel through natural environments, including:

  • Naturally-occurring minerals
  • Radioactive materials in some cases
  • Substances from animal or human activities

To ensure safety, both the EPA and State regulations limit contaminant levels in public water systems, while FDA regulations establish similar protections for bottled water products.

New York CDC Tap Water Info

For more information on your municipal water, visit the U.S. CDC:

Massapequa WD Municipal Water Company and CDC
  1. I have excellent credit. Why do I need to pay a deposit? Anyone who isn't the property owner must pay a deposit to initiate service. The deposit amount depends on the property's meter size, not your credit history.
  2. When do I get my deposit back? Upon closing your account (without transferring service to another location), your deposit applies toward your final bill. Any remaining amount will be refunded via check mailed to your forwarding address.
  3. Can I pay my bill online? Yes, visit www.savannahga.gov/utilitypay for online payment options. You'll need your account number and barcode.
  4. I have an outstanding balance but I'm moving. Must I pay this balance? YES, you're responsible for all balances. Any unpaid amounts on current or previous accounts must be settled before establishing service at a new location. Failure to pay may result in collections action.
  5. I need assistance paying my water bill. Where can I find help? Low-income seniors and disabled residents should check the Help to Our Community page for discount program information. Various local organizations also provide assistance to community members experiencing hardships through counseling and advocacy programs. Note that funding limitations and eligibility requirements may affect program acceptance.
  6. What is my due date? Bills are due 20 days after issuance. Visit our Avoid Late Fees, Penalties, & Service Shut-Off page to understand your bill's lifecycle and avoiding delinquency.
  7. Why can't I receive my bill on the same day every other month? Your account belongs to a specific billing cycle. We process approximately 10,000 customers monthly after completing meter readings for each cycle. Holidays, weekends, and unforeseen circumstances (like weather events) affect reading schedules, making exact same-day billing impossible.
  8. I haven't received a bill. Why? Bills are issued bi-monthly. If you're not receiving them, contact Customer Service at 912-651-6460 to verify your mailing address and account balance.
  9. Where is my barcode located and will it remain the same? The barcode appears on your bill's return stub, directly below your account number. It remains unchanged as long as your service address stays the same. New addresses receive new barcodes.
  10. When will my trash be collected? For trash pickup schedules, visit the Sanitation website or contact the Sanitation Department at 912-651-6579.
  11. Do you offer bill discounts? Yes, the Help to Our Community (H2OC) program provides discounts for qualifying low-income seniors and disabled residents. Learn more on our H2OC webpage.
  12. When will my water service be activated? All service activations occur the next business day, excluding holidays and weekends. Ensure all faucets in your home are turned off. Meter reinstallations may require up to two business days.
  13. How often are meters read? Meters are read bi-monthly throughout the year by our meter reading team.
  14. How do you read water meters? Most meters function like an odometer. Please refer to our video on How to Read Your Water Bill and Meter for instructions.
  15. Why is my usage estimated? While we strive to read every meter bi-monthly, sometimes estimates are necessary. Your bill will indicate "UNABLE TO READ METER, ESTIMATED BASED ON PRIOR USAGE" when this occurs. Common obstacles include dogs, vehicles over meters, locked gates, waterlogged meter boxes, overgrowth, or pest infestations. Contact Customer Service at 912-651-6460 to schedule an actual reading and receive an adjusted bill.
