About Us
We're pleased to present this year's Annual Municipal Water Quality Report. This document aims to inform you about the quality of water and services we provide daily. Our ongoing mission is to deliver safe, reliable water to your home. We want you to understand our efforts to continuously enhance water treatment processes and protect our valuable water resources.
Our water comes from both ground water sources and treated surface water. Midvale maintains its own wells and also receives water from Sandy and Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District. Our Drinking Water Source Protection Plan is available for your review, containing important information about source protection zones, potential contamination sources, and management strategies to safeguard our water supply.
The connections to our water distribution system require proper maintenance. When correctly installed and maintained, these connections pose minimal risks. However, improper piping modifications or unauthorized connections can negatively impact both supply and water quality. Cross-connections may allow contaminated water or chemicals to enter the water supply if not properly protected.
What can you do to help? Avoid making or permitting improper connections at your property. Even an unprotected garden hose lying in a puddle creates a cross-connection. Similarly, an unprotected sprinkler system after fertilizing or spraying represents a potential contamination risk. These improper connections at your home will affect your family first. On July 7, 1949, the Magna Water District was established by resolution of the Board of Salt Lake County Commissioners, with the Magna Water Board operating independently. Since then, Magna Water has been serving customer needs for culinary (drinking) water and sewer services, growing from a few hundred connections to more than 7,500 today.
The District continues to plan strategically to address the growing population's needs, including developing secondary water systems to control culinary capital costs and enhance conservation efforts. Forward planning and responsible management enable the District to secure long-term water resources and supply.
Working closely with the Magna Chamber of Commerce and Salt Lake County, the District has built a strong redevelopment partnership to ensure a robust economic foundation and sustainable water supply for the future. The District has received recognition from former Utah Governor Olene S. Walker, Utah State Senator Howard Stephenson, and the State of Utah Department of Environmental Quality Drinking Water Board.
Through infrastructure improvements and expansion, service enhancements, and water conservation initiatives, the District has developed effective policies to reduce contaminants and ensure a safe supply. In February 2008, the District and Carollo Engineers were recognized in the Deseret News as one of "13 Utah engineers" for innovative technology in removing arsenic and perchlorate under Patent No. 7,318,895.
In 2007, the District received a national EPA award for "Sustainable Health Protection" through exceptional creativity in designing projects that promote sustainability and protect public health. As a certified water supplier, the District meets or exceeds all local, state, and federal mandates while staying current with industry advancements.
