Alabama Water Utility Companies

The Muscle Shoals Utilities Board is pleased to present this year's Water Quality Report for 2015. This document aims to keep you informed about the quality of water and services we deliver daily.

We want residents to understand our efforts to improve treatment processes and protect our water supply. We're committed to providing our customers with the safest, highest quality water possible. This Water Quality Report, required by the Safe Municipal Water Act, explains where your water comes from, what independent laboratory tests reveal, and other essential information.

Our Water Treatment Plant is located at 321 River Street and uses Pat Lake on the Tennessee River as its water source. The treatment process incorporates mixing, flocculation, sedimentation, and filtration. Additionally, we use chlorine dioxide & chlorine for disinfection, fluoride for dental protection, and caustic soda for pH adjustment.

The Utilities Board has completed a source water assessment for the treatment plant. This information is available for review at our office between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Appointments are required.

Our Board is governed by five members: Mr. Keith Murphy (Chairman), Mr. David Yarber (Vice-Chairman), Mr. Tyrus Mansell, Mrs. Donna Ricks, and Mr. Bill Smith. For questions about this report or our water utility, please contact Mr. James Vance, Manager at 256-386-9260 or Mr. Brian Barton, Water Plant Supervisor at 256-386-9263.

We encourage our valued customers to stay informed about their water utility. Learn more at www.muscleshoalswater.org or attend our scheduled Board meetings, held at 5:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at 2210 East Second Street.

FROM THE MANAGER'S DESK: The Utilities Board remains vigilant in meeting the challenges of growth and increasingly stringent regulatory requirements. Our state-of-the-art 9 MGD water treatment plant utilizes advanced technologies to produce safe, high-quality water for all customers.

Recent projects include completed relocation of water and sewer lines along Pat Dam Road and ongoing relocation of water lines along Avalon Avenue between Wilson Dam Road and Webster Street. We're also upgrading equipment at various sewer pump stations throughout town.

These improvements ensure safe, reliable water and sewer service while supporting community growth and business development. We recognize that alongside water quality, maintaining affordable service is crucial – currently, our residential customers pay less than one penny per gallon for water!

Thank you for the opportunity to share this report with you. James Vance, Manager.
