THE SYSTEM OVERVIEW: North Alamo Water Supply Corporation operates as a legally authorized entity under Texas State law, providing potable water and wastewater utility services to rural residents across eastern Hidalgo County, Willacy County, and northwestern Cameron County as outlined in Certificates of Convenience and Necessity Nos. 10553 and 20645.
The Corporation's service area spans 973 square miles, encompassing or bordering 16 cities and communities with public water systems. Currently serving over 44,900 meter connections—including residences, businesses, 24 schools, and six other Public Water Systems—the corporation utilizes six surface water treatment plants and one reverse osmosis facility. These connections represent approximately 180,000 people.
The primary source of raw water is the Rio Grande River, delivered through six water district systems. Additionally, the reverse osmosis plant processes brackish groundwater. Approximately 2,000 connections also receive wastewater services from the corporation. A nine-member Board of Directors, elected by Corporation members, oversees operational policies, rates, tariffs, and regulations.
WATER DISTRIBUTION: The extensive distribution network consists of roughly 3,500 miles of pipeline ranging from 1½" to 16" in diameter. Nine booster stations and eight elevated storage towers strategically positioned throughout the system maintain proper flow and pressure levels.
WATER RIGHTS: Through ownership and contractual agreements, the Corporation controls 18,273 acre-feet of water rights, supporting an average daily flow of 16.313 MGD. This excludes water rights received from utilities purchasing wholesale water from the Corporation. When extending service to developing properties, the Corporation requires either assignment of existing water rights or developer financing for equivalent water rights purchases, ensuring sufficient supply for growth-related demand increases.
WASTEWATER SYSTEMS: The wastewater system serves over 1,230 connections in San Carlos, Hargill, Monte Alto, and La Sara communities through four treatment plants in Hidalgo and Willacy Counties. The collection system includes 29 miles of 6" to 12" pipelines, nine lift stations, and five processor stations that collect and transfer wastewater to the treatment facilities.
