Maryland Water Utility Companies

The Water & Wastewater Division of Worcester County Department of Public Works ensures safe municipal water delivery to customers in the Briddletown Service Area. From January through December 2017, we conducted regular testing for water contaminants, including monthly tests for Total Coliform and Fecal Coliform Bacteria as required by Federal and State regulations.

Our testing detected several contaminants, all at levels significantly below established safety thresholds. This information serves as a snapshot of your 2017 water quality. We've included details about your water source, composition, and how it compares with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) standards.

Questions? Contact Gary Serman at 410-641-5251 ext. 2415 on weekdays between 6:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Some individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. Those with compromised immune systems—including cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, elderly individuals, and infants—should seek advice from healthcare providers regarding their drinking water. EPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risks from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available via the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

Your water comes from three wells approximately 125 feet deep, tapping into the Pocomoke Aquifer. These wells are owned and operated by the Town of Bremen, Maryland, from whom we purchase our water supply.

High lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in water primarily comes from materials in service lines and home plumbing. While Worcester County provides quality water, we cannot control plumbing component materials. If your water has been sitting for several hours, minimize potential lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. For concerns about lead, consider water testing. Information is available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791 or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

Ocean Pines Municipal Water Report Info

Worcester County is Maryland's easternmost county (view interactive map). Our county seat is Snow Hill. The county was named after Mary Arundel, wife of Sir John Somerset, son of Henry Somerset, 1st Marquess of Worcester. She was the sister of Anne Arundel (namesake of Anne Arundel County), who married Cecil Calvert, the first Proprietor and Proprietary Governor of Maryland.

Worcester County is part of the Salisbury, MD-DE Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county encompasses the state's entire ocean coastline and borders Sinepuxent Bay, Assawoman Bay, and Assateague Channel and Bay between the barrier islands of Assateague and Chincoteague. It's home to the popular vacation destination Ocean City, established in 1875, and pristine wilderness areas on Assateague Island and in the Pocomoke River and Swamp.
