About Us
We are pleased to present this year's annual water quality report. As in previous years, we remain committed to delivering the highest quality municipal water possible. We continue to meet the challenges of new regulations, source water protection, water conservation, and community education while serving the needs of all our water customers.
Thank you for allowing us to serve you and your family. We encourage you to share your thoughts about the information in this report, as informed customers are our greatest allies.
A Source Water Assessment Plan (SWAP) is available at our office. This assessment outlines the delineated area around our listed sources where contaminants, if present, could migrate and reach our source water. It includes an inventory of potential contamination sources and determines our water supply's vulnerability to these identified sources. According to the assessment, our water system received a Medium susceptibility rating. Please contact our office during regular business hours if you'd like to review this plan.
Oconee County imports 95% of its water from the Upper Oconee Basin Water Authority's Bear Creek WTP. The Bear Creek facility draws raw water from the Middle Oconee River and Bear Creek into its reservoir. We also import a small portion from neighboring Barrow County and Athens-Clarke County Unified Government. Additionally, we operate groundwater wells permitted by the State of Georgia and maintain 9 additional permits for reserve groundwater withdrawal locations.
