About Us
A distinguished panel of local water experts and officials presents the 2015 Report Card for Humboldt County's water infrastructure with a grade of B. Currently, Humboldt County's water infrastructure maintains good to excellent condition overall. Some infrastructure sections are approaching the end of their service life and will need replacement within the next 12 to 50 years.
Fortunately, most local water systems throughout Humboldt County can safely treat and reliably deliver clean water with minimal capacity concerns and low public health risks. While the county's overall water infrastructure status remains good to excellent, many smaller community service districts require substantial investments.
These smaller communities represent a minimal fraction of Humboldt County's total population and therefore have limited impact on the overall county grade. Five of the 11 community service districts individually contribute less than 1% to the overall grade, yet require significant attention at the individual community level. In contrast, larger entities including Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District, the cities, and the larger community service districts each contribute up to 50% of the overall grade (Figure 1). Note that each community's weight is determined based on its water consumption volume.
