Water Resources
The sources of municipal water (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and, in some cases, radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity.
Potential contaminants in source water before treatment include:
- Microbial contaminants such as viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment facilities, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants like salts and metals that occur naturally or result from urban stormwater runoff, industrial/domestic wastewater, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban stormwater runoff, and residential uses
- Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile organics from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, urban runoff, and septic systems
- Radioactive contaminants that occur naturally or result from oil/gas production and mining
The water sources for this system include groundwater wells within the District plus surface water from Oyster Creek. The TCEQ completed a source water assessment showing some sources are vulnerable to certain contaminants. Sample requirements address this vulnerability through regular testing. Any detections appear in this Consumer Confidence Report.
Information about Lead: If present, elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in water primarily comes from materials in service lines and home plumbing. While we provide quality water, we cannot control plumbing materials. When your water sits unused for several hours, reduce potential lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. For concerns about lead, consider water testing. All Municipal Water May Contain Contaminants: Even when water meets federal standards, there may not be health benefits to purchasing bottled water or point-of-use devices. Municipal water, including bottled water, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. About Pecan Grove Municipal Utility District Profile
On May 27, 1975, Pecan Grove Municipal Utility District (PGMUD) was established by order of the Texas Water Commission (now called the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, or TCEQ) and confirmed by election on January 15, 1977. The District is located entirely within the ETJ of Richmond, in Fort Bend County, Texas.
The District is authorized to construct, operate and maintain all water and wastewater facilities necessary to serve residents within the boundaries of the District. Pecan Grove MUD is somewhat unique in that it also includes a levee system for flood protection.
