Lead and Copper regulations are based on a 90th percentile calculation. These samples were required for 2017. When present, elevated lead levels can cause serious health concerns, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead in tap water primarily comes from materials and components associated with service lines and residential plumbing.

Summit Township is responsible for delivering quality municipal water but cannot control the materials used in household plumbing components. If your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for consumption or cooking. If concerned about lead in your water, you may have it tested. Information about lead in water, testing methods, and exposure reduction steps is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791) or at http://water.epa.gov/drink/info/lead.

While your water meets EPA standards for arsenic, it may contain low levels of this mineral. EPA's standard balances current understanding of arsenic's potential health effects against removal costs. EPA continues researching health impacts of low arsenic levels, which can cause cancer at high concentrations and is linked to skin damage and circulatory problems.

Salt does not have an MCL, and this information is provided for healthcare purposes. All water quality data is representative, though some may be over a year old. Our system had no violations, and we're proud that our water meets all federal and state requirements.

Municipal water, including bottled varieties, may reasonably contain small amounts of some contaminants. This doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

Water sources (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves natural minerals and can pick up substances from animal or human activities.
