THE SOURCE OF TOCCOA'S WATER
Our primary water source is Lake Toccoa located on Highway 17 Alternative approximately 2.5 miles north of the city. The lake receives supplemental water pumped from Davidson Creek Reservoir and Lake Yonah. As our testing confirms, Toccoa's water meets or exceeds all federal and state requirements for safety.

WATER QUALITY MONITORING
The Toccoa Water Treatment Facility at 2611 Falls Road conducts comprehensive monitoring of your municipal water as required by regulations. Our laboratory performed over 47,320 chemical analyses and 3,552 microbiological tests during the past year. This report presents monitoring results from January through December 2016.

UNDERSTANDING WATER QUALITY
All water sources, including reservoirs like ours, naturally collect minerals as they flow across land surfaces. Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in water than the general population. Individuals with compromised immune systems, those undergoing chemotherapy, people with HIV/AIDS, elderly residents, and infants face higher risks from potential infections. These individuals should seek guidance about municipal water from healthcare providers.

SAFETY STANDARDS
Municipal water, including bottled varieties, typically contains minimal amounts of some contaminants. The presence of these substances doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For detailed information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA's Safe DrinkingWaterHotline (1-800-426-4791).

Toccoa Drinking Water Report Info

Established following the Civil War, Toccoa derives its name from the Cherokee word meaning "lovely." Those of us residing here wholeheartedly agree it remains one of Georgia's most beautiful places to live.

Led by an energetic city commission, Toccoa offers residents a rich heritage, stunning landscapes, comfortable living conditions, and a business-friendly political climate. The area boasts excellent schools, nearly perfect weather, and cultural opportunities for all ages.

Spanning 8.31 square miles, approximately 8,500 residents call Toccoa home. The town began in 1873 around an area formerly known as "Dry Pond," named for a basin that remained dry most of the year. Three visionary investors—Dr. O.M. Doyle, B.Y. Sage, and Thomas Alexander—anticipated a new railroad through the area, purchased 1,765 acres, and organized lot sales that brought potential buyers via excursion trains.

Formally chartered in 1874, Toccoa's downtown streets still bear the names of these founders: Sage, Doyle, and Alexander. Originally part of Habersham County, local residents petitioned for a new county due to difficult mountain travel to the county seat in Clarkesville. Their efforts succeeded with the creation of Stephens County, and Toccoa became the county seat on January 1, 1906.

The late 1930s brought significant development, including acquisition of Capps Cotton Mill by J&P Coats Co. in 1937, R.G. LeTourneau's earth-moving equipment factory in 1938, and construction of Toccoa Airport that same year. World War II profoundly impacted the community, with Camp Toccoa training paratroopers and the LeTourneau plant manufacturing military equipment, employing up to 2,000 workers.
