Tualatin Valley Water District
About Us
TVWD sources approximately 30% of its water from the Joint Water Commission (JWC), which is co-owned by the District and the cities of Beaverton, Hillsboro, and Forest Grove. The JWC water comes from Hagg Lake, Barney Reservoir, and seasonal flow from the Tualatin River. This water undergoes treatment at the JWC facility near Forest Grove.
The remaining 70% is purchased from the City of Portland, which primarily draws water from the Bull Run watershed in the Mt. Hood National Forest. Portland supplements this with groundwater from the Columbia South Shore Well Field as needed during peak demand periods.
Additionally, TVWD utilizes Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) technology. During winter months when water is abundant, treated water is stored underground in the aquifer near the Grabhorn well on Cooper Mountain. In summer, this stored water (capacity of over 300 million gallons) is retrieved to help meet increased demand.
