About Us
We're proud to present this year's Annual Water Quality Report to our community. This document informs you about the quality of water we deliver daily. Our mission is to provide safe, reliable water for all residents. We continuously strive to enhance our treatment processes and protect our valuable water resources.
Our water comes exclusively from groundwater sources through our network of 16 wells drawing from three distinct aquifers: eight wells in the Potomac-Raritan-Magothy Aquifer, five in the Cohansey Aquifer, and three in the Mt. Laurel-Wenonah Aquifer.
Our treatment facilities include fluoride addition (maintaining 0.08-1.2 parts per million), lime addition for pH control, corrosion inhibitors, and chlorine disinfection. We've implemented specialized air stripping processes at Well 18 and Well 16 to remove volatile organic compounds, with funding assistance from the NJDEP Spill Fund.
In 2005, WTMUA secured a low-interest loan from NJDEP to construct a radium removal plant at wells 10 and 11, costing approximately $4 million. We now use this same technology at the Well 18 site to ensure compliance with current and future radiological requirements.
We invest in professional development, encouraging our staff to attend training on water treatment and distribution operations. Our Superintendent holds all required water treatment and distribution licenses, with eight additional staff members maintaining various state certifications.
For reference, here are some common terms you might encounter in water quality reports:
- Non-Detects (ND): laboratory analysis indicates the constituent is not present
- Parts per million (ppm): equivalent to one minute in two years or one penny in $10,000
- Parts per billion (ppb): equivalent to one minute in 2,000 years or one penny in $10,000,000
- Picocuries per liter (pCi/L): measures radioactivity in water
