About Us
The Waterford Township Department of Public Works (DPW) is proud to present its nineteenth annual Municipal Water Quality Report. While the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Michigan Division of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) mandate water utilities to report on water quality, the DPW considers it essential to inform you, our valued customers, about your tap water's safety and the importance of protecting our water resources.
We're pleased to announce there were no treatment or monitoring violations for Operational Year 2017. If you have questions about this report or other water quality matters, please contact Gerald Ward (Water Treatment Foreman) at 248-618-7483, by fax at 248-674-8658, or email at gward@waterfordmi.gov.
Water sources (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. The DPW uses wells to supply municipal water. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and, in some cases, radioactive materials, and may collect substances from animal presence or human activity.
All water, including bottled water, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791) or visit www.epa.gov/safewater.
Your water comes from 19 wells at 11 different locations throughout Waterford Township. Water undergoes treatment at 11 Water Treatment Plants, including iron removal processes. Chlorine gas is added for disinfection, and Ortho-Phosphate for corrosion control to prevent lead and copper from leaching into the municipal water. The EPA prescribes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems to ensure tap water safety.

The Town of Waterford sits in the southeastern corner of Saratoga County, approximately 12 miles north of Albany where the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers meet, and at the junction of the Erie and Champlain Canals. It's home to the renowned "Waterford Flight," the highest set of lift locks in the world.
In 1816, the old precinct of "Halve Maan" (Halfmoon) was divided into separate towns: Halfmoon and Waterford. The Village of Waterford, located within the town, holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously incorporated village in the United States.
Waterford's industrial landscape includes Momentive Performance Materials, Saratoga County's largest employer. Mohawk Paper Mill operates on the historic Kings Canal, while Ursula of Switzerland is situated in Waterford's Northside section. Hudson River Road hosts industries including Cascades, DeGussa, Golub Warehouses, and Maximum Security Products. Both the New York State DOT and Canal Corporation operate from Waterford, and the Bureau of Historic Sites has its headquarters on Peebles Island, a New York State Park within Waterford.
The Town maintains a full-time Police Department, five volunteer fire departments, a Rescue Squad, and an Emergency Team. It's served by two school districts, with Waterford-Halfmoon being the primary district and a small portion falling within Shenendehowa School District.
Currently experiencing growth that's expected to continue, Waterford benefits from numerous civic organizations working toward community improvement. It truly exemplifies a volunteer community spirit.
