About Us
The Village of Weston Municipal Utilities is proud to present our 2017 Annual Water Quality Report. This document aims to keep residents informed about the quality of your tap water and the services we provide daily.
Our mission is to deliver safe, dependable water while continually improving our delivery systems and protecting our water resources. We remain committed to water quality excellence and exceptional customer service.
Your water is sourced from 6 groundwater wells ranging from 70 to 111 feet deep, drawing from unconfined sand and gravel aquifers. These wells provide approximately 2,100,500 gallons of treated water daily to 5,000 homes and businesses across Weston, Rothschild, Schofield, and Rib Hill communities.
For source water assessment information, please contact Keith Donner, P.E., Director of Public Works and Utilities at 715-359-2876.
All tap water from our wells undergoes treatment to ensure high quality. We add:
- Chlorine as protection against disease-causing organisms
- Fluoride for dental health benefits
- Blended phosphate to minimize iron and manganese aesthetic effects
Potential contaminant sources in water include:
- Microbial Contaminants: Bacteria or viruses from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
- Inorganic Contaminants: Naturally occurring or human-activity related salts and metals
- Pesticides/Herbicides: Agricultural runoff, urban stormwater, and residential usage
- Organic Chemicals: Industrial process byproducts, petroleum refining, gas stations, and septic systems
- Radioactive Contaminants: Natural sources or oil/gas production and mining
The EPA regulates contaminant levels in public water systems to ensure safety, while the FDA establishes similar limits for bottled water. Our 2017 testing revealed some detectable contaminants, all within allowable limits.
For health information, we're pleased to report our water meets all Federal and State standards. While all water contains trace contaminants, this doesn't necessarily indicate health risks. Immuno-compromised individuals, cancer patients, transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, elderly persons, and infants may be particularly vulnerable and should seek medical advice about drinking water.
