About Us
This municipal water consumer confidence report (CCR) provides vital information about the quality of drinking water at WPAFB. We're pleased to report that WPAFB continued to meet all Federal and State water safety standards during calendar year (CY) 2017.
WPAFB draws its water from the Great Miami Buried Valley Aquifer, a natural underground reservoir that supplies approximately one billion gallons annually to the base. Six wells serve Area A and four wells serve Area B. Our water undergoes several treatment processes:
- Air stripping (removes volatile organic compounds)
- Chlorine disinfection (eliminates harmful bacteria)
- Fluoridation (promotes dental health)
Additionally, water from two wells in Area A receives treatment through a granular activated carbon (GAC) system to remove perfluorinated compounds (PFCs). Residents in The Bricks and The Woods housing areas receive softened water to reduce mineral content.
The Area A public water system maintains emergency interconnections with the City of Fairborn's water supply. Area B has a separate groundwater source from wells located near Huffman Prairie.

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is located northeast of Dayton, Ohio, spanning parts of Greene and Montgomery counties. The base has a distinguished aviation heritage dating back to the Wright brothers, who perfected their flying skills at Huffman Prairie, now part of the base.
Today, Wright-Patterson AFB serves as the largest single-site employer in Ohio, with over 27,000 employees and an annual economic impact of $4.2 billion. The 8,000-acre facility is divided into Areas A and B, separated by Ohio SR 444, and supports more than 100 associate units.
The base functions as headquarters for a worldwide logistics system, world-class laboratory research, and is the foremost acquisition and development center in the U.S. Air Force. Its infrastructure includes two runways supporting approximately 47,000 aircraft operations annually.

- 88th Air Base Wing - The host unit that maintains infrastructure and provides essential services
- Air Force Materiel Command - Conducts research, development, testing, and logistics support
- Air Force Life Cycle Management Center - Acquires and supports aircraft, engines, and weapons systems
- Air Force Research Laboratory - Leads discovery and development of warfighting technologies
- National Air and Space Intelligence Center - Primary source for foreign air and space threats
- 445th Airlift Wing - Provides military airlift capability
The base is also home to the Air Force Institute of Technology and the National Museum of the United States Air Force, the world's oldest and largest military aviation museum.
