California Water Utility Companies

The District obtains approximately 70% of its water from local wells within Placentia and Anaheim city limits. These groundwater sources include Wells 1, 5, 7, 10, 12, 18, and 19 in Placentia, plus Wells 10, 15, 20, and 21 in Anaheim. Chlorine disinfection is applied to this groundwater as it enters the distribution system.

The remaining water comes from the Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC), which receives water from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD). MWD sources include Northern California water via the California Aqueduct and Colorado River water via the Colorado River Aqueduct. This imported water is treated at the Robert B. Diemer plant north of Yorba Linda and disinfected with chloramines (a chlorine-ammonia combination).

Water sources may change throughout the year to maximize groundwater delivery, which might cause noticeable variations in taste or mineral content (hardness). However, these fluctuations do not affect the safety or quality of your water supply.
