Florida Water Utility Companies

The City of Altamonte Springs is proud to present the 2017 Annual Municipal Water Quality Report. We strive to keep residents informed about the excellent water and services we provide. Our primary goal remains delivering safe and dependable water to all households.

Our water is sourced from the Floridan aquifer through groundwater wells. The treatment process includes:

  • Well pumping from deep aquifer sources
  • Tray aeration to eliminate hydrogen sulfide
  • Chlorination for proper disinfection
  • Fluoridation for dental health benefits
  • Orthophosphate addition as corrosion inhibitor

In 2017, Florida's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) conducted a Resource Water Assessment on our system to identify potential contamination risks. Five potential sources with moderate susceptibility levels were identified. The City continues monitoring supply wells for organic substances as required by regulations.

Assessment results are available through the FDEP Source Water Assessment and Protection Program at www.dep.state.fl.us/swap or directly from the Water Utility Division. The City routinely tests for contaminants according to Federal and State requirements. This report contains results from January 1 to December 31, 2017, with some data from earlier testing conducted under applicable regulations.

We're pleased to report our water system had no violations and meets or exceeds all Federal and State requirements. If present, elevated lead levels can pose serious health risks, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead typically comes from materials in service lines and home plumbing components. While we provide high-quality water, we cannot control materials used in residential plumbing systems.

To minimize potential lead exposure, run your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking, especially after periods of non-use. If concerned, consider having your water tested. Information about lead in water is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

Municipal water sources (including tap and bottled water) can contain various contaminants from natural processes and human activities. The EPA sets strict regulations to ensure tap water safety, while FDA regulations establish similar protections for bottled water.

For questions about this report or water quality, please contact the department director for Water, Wastewater and Recycle at (407) 571-8686 or visit www.Altamonte.org.
