Few developments have been more crucial in moving civilization from the Dark Ages into the Modern Era than the proper treatment of our municipal and industrial waste systems. The responsible management of these waste streams, along with purification of our water supplies, has contributed significantly to public health improvements and extended lifespans by controlling infectious diseases.

The City of Apopka's Water Resources Divisions take this responsibility very seriously, working diligently each day to ensure community health and wellbeing remain protected. The City's Water Treatment Division operates five strategically located water plants throughout Apopka and unincorporated Orange County:

  • Jack G. Grossenbacher Water Plant
  • Mt. Plymouth Lakes Water Plant
  • Myrtle Rogers Womble Northwest Water Plant
  • Plymouth Regional Water Plant
  • Sheeler Oaks Water Plant

Through December 2016, the City provided service to more than 23,000 residential and business water customers. During calendar year 2016, Apopka residents used an average of 7.8 million gallons of water daily.

The Apopka Fire Department is a distinguished ISO Class 1 service organization that has been serving the community for decades. Fire Chief Chuck Carnesale, who has been with the department for over 33 years, began his journey at age 13 as an explorer scout and continues to lead with the same passion and dedication today.

The department has evolved significantly over the years to meet the changing needs of the growing community, while maintaining its unwavering commitment to service excellence. Currently, the Apopka Fire Department comprises:

  • More than 80 firefighters and staff members
  • Four fire stations (with a fifth under development)
  • A fleet of 30 specialized vehicles

Chief Carnesale was officially appointed as Apopka Fire Chief in June 2016, bringing extensive qualifications from Seminole State and Valencia colleges, Florida State Fire College, and the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD. His professional recognitions include being named Apopka's Firefighter of the Year in 2000 by then-Governor Jeb Bush, and his appointment to the Orange County EMS Advisory Council by County Medical Director Dr. George Ralls.
