Massachusetts Water Utility Companies

We're proud to present our annual water quality report. Our team remains committed to delivering the highest quality municipal water possible to Bedford residents. We continuously monitor and meet new regulations regarding source water protection, water conservation, and community education, all while meeting the daily needs of our water users.

Important Health Information
Some individuals may have increased vulnerability to water contaminants, including people with compromised immune systems, cancer patients undergoing treatment, organ transplant recipients, those with HIV/AIDS, elderly residents, and infants. These individuals should consult healthcare providers about their water consumption. For guidelines on reducing infection risks from Cryptosporidium, Giardia, and other microbial contaminants, contact the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.

Water Conservation Tips

  • Run dishwashers only when fully loaded - they use 15 gallons regardless of load size
  • Turn off taps while brushing teeth
  • Check all household faucets for leaks - even slow drips waste 15-20 gallons daily
  • Test toilets for hidden leaks using food coloring in the tank
  • Use your water meter to detect unseen leaks by monitoring it after turning off all water-using appliances

System Facts and Figures
Consolidated Water District #1 serves approximately 9,056 residents through 2,181 service connections. In 2017, we produced 271 million gallons of water, averaging 741,000 gallons daily. About 88% was billed directly to consumers, with 31 million gallons used for firefighting, street maintenance, system leaks, and authorized usage. Residents were billed $1,898,822 total in 2017, with rates based on a sliding scale starting at $26 for the first 5,000 gallons. The average quarterly bill was $134.
