California Water Utility Companies

The Antelope municipal water system operates using deep wells that extract groundwater from aquifers within the Sacramento Valley. These wells are primarily situated within the Antelope service area boundaries. The water undergoes chlorination to ensure it meets bacteriological quality standards before distribution for residential and commercial use.

In certain years, California American Water may supplement the Antelope system with surface water purchased from the Sacramento Suburban Water District. This district employs various treatment processes including coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection.

A Source Water Assessment (SWA) of the Antelope system's water sources was completed in February 2003. Although not linked to any detected contaminants, the sources are considered most vulnerable to: sewer collection systems, grazing activities, low-density septic systems, agricultural operations, water wells, auto repair facilities, leaking underground storage tanks, photo processing businesses, and dry cleaners.

An assessment of the Sacramento Suburban Water District's surface water source was conducted in 2001 by San Juan Water District. This source is considered vulnerable to potential contamination from Folsom Lake State Recreation Area facilities, dense residential development, septic systems, pesticide application, and illegal dumping activities. A copy of the completed assessment is available at California American Water, 4701 Beloit Drive, Sacramento, CA 95838.
