City of Florence Municipal Water Company and EPACity of Florence Municipal Water Report Info
Welcome to Florence, "A City of Character!" Our community combines historical charm with Southern hospitality in a vibrant setting. Established in 1871 and incorporated December 24, 1890, Florence began as a railroad junction named after Florence Henning Harllee, daughter of the Wilmington & Manchester Railroad's first president.
Today, our city houses approximately 33,000 residents and balances metropolitan amenities with small-town comfort. Florence offers cultural attractions including a performance theater, symphony orchestra, ballet companies, museums, and the Freedom Florence recreation complex, while maintaining tree-lined streets and parks that contribute to our pleasant Southern lifestyle.
Located in Northeastern South Carolina between the Piedmont and Coastal regions, Florence sits approximately 80 miles northeast of Columbia, 100 miles north of Charleston, 90 miles south of Fayetteville, NC, and 70 miles west of Myrtle Beach. As Florence County's largest city and county seat, we benefit from excellent transportation access via I-95, I-20, U.S. Highways 52, 301, and 76, along with our regional airport, trucking terminals, and rail services.
Our temperate climate features mild winters and warm seasons from April through September, with an annual average temperature of 63.2 degrees.
