About Us
This report outlines our water quality standards and what they mean for you as a consumer. We want to ensure you're fully informed about your water supply. If you have questions about this report or your water service, please contact our Water Quality Laboratory at (717) 291-4818.
WATER SOURCES: Our municipal water comes from the Conestoga River and Susquehanna River in Lancaster County. A Source Water Assessment conducted in 2012 by the PA Department of Environmental Protection found our sources potentially vulnerable to agricultural activities, accidental spills along roadways, and urban runoff. Overall, our sources have a low risk of significant contamination.
The complete assessment is available at: https://gemgrp.com/eReports/CNMA000137Y18.pdf. Full reports were distributed to municipalities, water suppliers, local planning agencies, and PA DEP offices. Copies can be obtained from the DEP Regional Office at (484) 250-5910.
HEALTH INFORMATION: Some individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. Immuno-compromised persons—such as cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, elderly individuals, and infants—should seek medical advice about their drinking water. EPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risk from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available through the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.
WATER MONITORING: We routinely test for contaminants in compliance with federal and state regulations. The tables in our annual report show monitoring results from January 1 to December 31, 2017. Some contaminants are monitored less frequently as authorized by the Safe Drinking Water Act when concentrations don't change significantly over time.
