About Us
The City currently operates seven active water wells and one standby well distributed throughout Sunnyside. These wells are quite deep, and the water extracted generally meets or exceeds most state and federal quality standards.
Chlorine is applied as a disinfectant to ensure water safety. Daily monitoring of residual chlorine levels in the distribution system confirms that disinfection remains effective while maintaining the safe concentration limits established by the EPA. We conduct regular testing for numerous potential contaminants throughout the year. Should any test results exceed EPA's maximum contaminant levels, immediate public notification would be issued.
Water Use Efficiency Update: The Washington Division of Health implemented the Water Use Efficiency (WUE) program to "help use water efficiently to help meet future needs, operate effectively within financial, managerial and technical constraints, and to continuously deliver safe and reliable water." Our WUE goal is to account for 90% of produced water. In 2017, we successfully tracked 97% of all water produced! Our 3-year average for water lost to leakage was only 2.7%. We remain committed to identifying and addressing water waste issues and appreciate your partnership in making the WUE program successful.
