About Us
We are pleased to present the 2017 Annual Quality Water Report. This document is designed to inform you about the quality water we deliver to your home daily. Our primary goal is to provide you with a safe and dependable water supply. This year, as in previous years, your tap water meets or exceeds all Federal and State Health Standards.
Our system carefully protects its water supply, and we can report that our department had zero violations of contaminant levels or other water quality standards in 2017. This report summarizes the quality of water provided last year, including details about the source, content, and how it compares to regulatory standards.
We encourage our valued customers to stay informed about their water quality. Feel free to attend our regularly scheduled meetings held on the second and fourth Monday of each month at City Hall. The Illinois EPA has completed a source water assessment for our supply. If you would like a copy of this information, please visit City Hall or call our water operator at 708-206-2658.
For a detailed version of the Source Water Assessments, including information on source water importance, contamination susceptibility, and documentation of protection efforts, visit the Illinois EPA website at http://www.Epa.State.Il.Us/cgibin/wp/switch-reality-sheets.Pl.
Country Club Hills receives its water supply from the City of Chicago, which processes surface water from Lake Michigan. The Illinois EPA considers all surface water sources of community supply susceptible to potential contamination. The nature of surface water allows contaminants to migrate into intakes with protection only from dilution, making treatment mandatory for all Illinois surface water sources.
Chicago's offshore intakes are positioned at a distance where shoreline impacts aren't typically a factor in water quality. However, contamination potential exists during wet weather flows and river reversals. Additionally, the location of the intake structures may attract waterfowl, gulls, and terns common to the Great Lakes region.

Country Club Hills began in 1955 when developer J. E. Merrion realized his vision of spacious, affordable, middle-income homes in a country-like atmosphere. This area, formerly known as "Cooper's Grove," was settled by German farmers in the 1800s. Their children attended a one-room schoolhouse at what is now 183rd and Cicero.
In 1872, settlers established St. John's Lutheran Church and school. According to the Country Club Hills Bicentennial Commission, "Stone blocks for the building were hauled from Joliet quarry by teams of 24 mules on journeys lasting several days. The blocks were moved using log rollers as they were too heavy for wheeled vehicles. The entire structure was raised by hand using only ropes and pulleys." The church, completed in 1873, celebrates its 134th anniversary this year.
New families were attracted to the area by large half-acre lots, award-winning home designs, and winding streets. By 1956, approximately 117 homes were built, and the Country Club Hills Homeowners Association advocated for incorporation. On July 12, 1958, residents voted to incorporate as a City with a Mayor-Aldermanic Council government. The first election occurred in August 1958.
The newly elected officials faced numerous tasks. Evenings were devoted to drafting ordinances to establish a functioning City Government that could receive tax revenue needed for growth. These officials, paid $1.00 annually, often held special meetings until 2:00 AM, after working their regular jobs and spending time with their families.
The first City Hall was a century-old farmhouse at 177th and Crawford. The City installed indoor plumbing, renovated the interior, and leased the four-acre farm with apple orchard for $1.00 annually. In April 1972, a new municipal complex on 175th Place was dedicated, now the current Police Department location.
The initial Police Department occupied one room in the farmhouse City Hall before moving to an abandoned garage on the same property in 1961. During the first three years, officers worked without compensation, providing their own uniforms and firearms.
