The name "East Point" derives from being the eastern terminus of the Atlanta and West Point Railroad, with West Point, Georgia serving as the western end. Founded in 1870 as a railroad stop with just 16 families, it quickly became an attractive location for industrial development.
East Point was chartered as a city in 1887 and has developed into an ethnically diverse community. Between 2010 and 2014, the population grew by 5.3%. With over 38,000 residents and more than 17,000 households, it ranks as the sixth largest city in Fulton County.
Strategically located near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and a short distance from Downtown Atlanta, East Point hosts the Camp Creek Marketplace, Camp Creek Business Center, South Meadow Business Park, and several Fortune 500 Companies.
The city offers a unique and ethnically diverse urban environment with full amenities for local living. Regular Assembly meetings are scheduled for the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Maksoutoff Room at Harrigan Centennial Hall. Meeting agendas are published in the Daily Sitka Sentinel the Friday before the meeting and posted on the bulletin board on the main floor at City Hall.

- How Do I Manage Trash Disposal? Contact City Utilities Customer Service at 747-1818 to establish service for electric, water, and garbage. Utilities customers are permitted to take up to 200 pounds of trash per month to the City transfer station on Jarvis St.
- How Do I Dispose of Hazardous Household Materials? The City Public Works Department hosts an annual collection event for hazardous household materials. Watch for announcements in the newspaper and on the city website.
