CAP Water Details

Most of your water comes from the Colorado River via the CAP Canal to Lake Pleasant. This water is a blend of Colorado River and Lake Pleasant water, which also receives flow from the Agua Fria River. Water travels through an 8-mile pipeline from the CAP Canal to the Anthem Water Treatment Plant, which uses microfiltration technology to meet current and future quality standards.

City of Phoenix Connection

The Phoenix interconnect is supplied through either the Union Hills Water Treatment Plant or the Lake Pleasant Water Treatment Plant, both of which process water from the CAP Canal.

Groundwater Information

Two wells draw groundwater from the Salt River Valley basin. This basin is recharged through natural processes, agricultural and urban runoff, and dedicated recharge facilities.

Source Water Assessment

In 2004, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) conducted a comprehensive assessment of EPCOR-Anthem's two wells and surface water intake. The evaluation examined nearby land uses that could potentially threaten water quality, such as gas stations, landfills, dry cleaners, agriculture, wastewater treatment plants, and mining operations. While the two wells had no concerning adjacent land uses, the surface water intake had one nearby high-risk land use. The full assessment is available for public inspection at the ADEQ office in Phoenix.

Understanding Your Water

Municipal water—whether from taps or bottles—contains minerals naturally acquired as water moves through land and underground formations. In some cases, it may also contain trace amounts of substances from animal presence or human activity. The presence of small amounts of contaminants doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. Health Information

Certain individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. Those with compromised immune systems—including people undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, the elderly, and infants—should seek advice from healthcare providers about water consumption. Lead Information

EPCOR conducted lead and copper testing at 30 representative homes throughout the system in 2017, meeting all federal requirements. Elevated lead levels primarily come from materials in home plumbing rather than the municipal supply. If concerned about lead exposure, run your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking, especially after long periods of non-use. Seasonal Variations

Because your water comes from both surface and groundwater sources, you may notice seasonal changes in hardness and taste. These variations between surface water and groundwater characteristics are normal and completely safe.

1. Will the City collect debris from contractor work on my property?
   No. Materials generated by contractors are specifically excluded from Sanitation Division collection. This includes construction and demolition waste, roofing materials, trees, landscaping debris, and other waste. You or your contractor must arrange alternative disposal.
2. How can I dispose of construction or demolition waste during renovations?
   The Sanitation Division offers 10-cubic-yard roll-off dumpsters for residents with large amounts of debris. Contact them for rental information and availability.
3. What's the process for disposing of large items that don't fit in standard bins?
   The Sanitation Division provides bulky item pickup services for furniture, appliances, electronics, tree limbs, and other large items for a small fee added to your utility bill. Schedule pickup at least one day before your regular collection. Alternatively, eligible residents can receive up to two free landfill coupons annually for direct hauling to the Harvey County Transfer Station.
4. How do I report a complaint about biased service or profiling?
   Anyone who believes they experienced racial or biased-based service may file a complaint with the Newton Police Department and/or Attorney General's Office. Submit a written, signed statement to the Chief of Police, Deputy Chief, or any Lieutenant or Sergeant. No one will face discrimination or retaliation for filing such complaints.
5. If I don't have internet access, how can I complete an online application?
   Public internet access is available at the HR Department in City Hall, the Newton Public Library, and the Workforce Development Center.
6. How do I create an email address for the online application system?
   Free email services are available through providers like AOL, Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo.
7. What happens after I submit my application?
   The hiring manager reviews your qualifications against the position requirements. Processing typically takes about two weeks, depending on application volume.
8. How will I know my application was received?
   All applicants receive email confirmation to the address associated with their HRePartners account. You may also contact Human Resources to confirm receipt.
9. Can I update my application after submission?
   Once submitted, applications cannot be modified. However, you may submit an addendum or resume by contacting Human Resources.
