About Us
We are pleased to present this year's Annual Municipal Water Quality Report. This document provides information about the quality water and services we deliver to your home daily. Our mission is to provide you with safe, reliable municipal water. We want to share the efforts we make to continuously enhance water treatment processes and protect our valuable water resources.
Our water supply comes from ten wells that draw groundwater from the Englishtown Aquifer System and the Potomac-Raritan-Magothy Aquifer System. We also purchase water from Suez Water New Jersey Matchaponix System. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has completed a Source Water Assessment Report for our system, available at WWW.Nation.Nj.Us/dep/change or by contacting NJDEP's Bureau of Safe Drinking Water at (609) 292-5550.
Certain individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. People with compromised immune systems—such as cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals with HIV/AIDS, elderly persons, and infants—may face higher health risks. These individuals should consult healthcare providers about their water consumption. EPA/CDC guidelines for reducing infection risks from Cryptosporidium and other microbiological contaminants are available via the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).
The Freehold Township Water Department and Suez Water New Jersey Matchaponix System conduct regular contaminant monitoring following Federal and State regulations. Our testing results from January through December 2016 are available in the accompanying tables.

The township maintains ten active wells across its water system. These wells tap into three different aquifers and provide between 500 to 1200 gallons per minute in capacity. Each well field features its own dedicated water treatment facility. The groundwater from these sources is exceptionally high quality.
The primary function of our treatment plants is removing iron and manganese from the water supply. Treated water flows into a distribution network consisting of water mains ranging from six to sixteen inches in diameter. The Township follows a comprehensive master plan for this distribution system and maintains detailed design requirements for all extensions.
Extensions are primarily installed by developers, with each development project undergoing thorough review to ensure compliance with the master plan and design standards. The system is also analyzed using hydraulic modeling software to verify its capacity to meet demand and provide adequate fire flow with proper pressure. This modeling helps determine when developers need to install off-site improvements to support their projects. Currently, the Township maintains approximately 135 miles of water mains.
