About Us
Certain population groups may have heightened vulnerability to water contaminants compared to the general public. Individuals with compromised immune systems—such as those undergoing cancer treatment, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, elderly residents, and infants—face particular risks from waterborne infections. These residents should consult healthcare providers about their tap water consumption. The EPA/CDC guidelines for reducing Cryptosporidium and other microbial contamination risks are available through the Safe Municipal Water Hotline (800-426-4791).
According to the OEPA, the aquifer supplying Gallia Rural Water Association's #1 Well Field has high contamination susceptibility, evidenced by volatile organic chemical detection in raw water during the early 1990s. Implementing protective measures can mitigate potential contamination risks. Meanwhile, the #2 Well Field's aquifer shows moderate susceptibility due to its sensitivity and several potential contaminant sources within the protection zone. This assessment doesn't guarantee contamination will occur but indicates conditions that could impact groundwater quality. For more information, contact Gallia Rural Water at (740) 446-9221.
Elevated lead levels pose serious health concerns, particularly for pregnant women and young children. While Gallia Rural Water Association ensures quality water delivery, they cannot control materials used in household plumbing components. To minimize lead exposure from water that has been sitting in pipes, flush your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for consumption. If concerned about lead content, consider having your water tested. Information about lead in water, testing methods, and exposure reduction is available at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.
Gallia Rural Water Association conducts regular contaminant monitoring in compliance with federal and local regulations. Our testing results for January through December 2017 are available through the link below. All municipal water, including bottled varieties, can reasonably be expected to contain at least trace amounts of certain contaminants, though their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For questions about this report or other water quality matters, contact Brent Bolin, General Manager at (740) 446-9221.
