Harrisburg water utility serves the community with dedication to quality and safety standards. Our team monitors water quality regularly and reports findings to ensure transparency with all customers.

1. If I have a leak in my service line, will the city repair it? The city is only responsible for repairs and replacements of water mains in the street, the connection from the main to the shutoff valve at the property line, and meters and remote reading devices. Homeowners are responsible for the service line from the property line to the residence or business, all plumbing on private property, the meter pit for outdoor ground-mounted meters, and repairs to frozen meters where adequate protection wasn't provided.
2. How do I sign up for water and sewer service as a new homeowner? Two options: Complete the new owner application and mail or drop it off, or visit our office on the second floor of Town Hall to complete the proper form in person. Download the application form (PDF).
3. What steps should I take when selling a house in town? Contact our office at least 48 hours before closing to arrange a final reading with our staff. The new owner's name(s) will be required when requesting the final bill. The final invoice must be paid in full when picked up at our office. View staff contact information.
4. What is groundwater? Groundwater forms when rain and snow seep into the ground, moving between particles of soil, sand, gravel or rock until reaching a depth where the ground becomes saturated with water. This saturated zone's upper boundary is called the water table, which can be very close to the surface or hundreds of feet deep.
5. What is the hardness level of our water? Water hardness is measured in parts per million of calcium carbonate, equating to approximately 5-6 grains, considered medium hardness.
6. Where does our water come from? The town's water supply is groundwater from 6 active wells, primarily located in the northwest quadrant of town.
7. Why does my tap water occasionally appear slightly brown? Is it safe? Brown water typically results from water main breaks or hydrant flushing that disturbs the system and stirs up sediment. If concerned, please contact the Water and Sewer Department at 508-841-8506.
