Tennessee Water Utility Companies

Is our municipal water safe to consume? Yes, our water meets all EPA health standards. We have conducted extensive testing for more than 80 potential contaminants. As shown in our reports, we detected only 11 contaminants, all within acceptable levels according to regulatory guidelines.

Where does our water come from? Our water supply comes from surface water in the M Bar Embayment of the Tennessee River and Allen Fine Spring. Our priority is protecting these water sources from contamination, and we collaborate with state authorities to assess vulnerability risks.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has prepared a Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP) Report for our untreated water sources. This report evaluates potential contamination risks to ensure safe municipal water. All public water systems treat and regularly test their water to maintain safety standards.

Water sources are classified based on geological factors and nearby human activities as reasonably vulnerable, moderately susceptible, or slightly susceptible. The Lenoir City Utilities Water Plant #1 source is rated as reasonably vulnerable, while Plant #2 is considered moderately susceptible.

For more information about Tennessee's Source Water Assessment Program, summaries, susceptibility ratings, and the TDEC's EPA reports, visit https://tn.gov/environment/program-areas/wr-water-resources/waterquality/source-water-assessment.html or contact our Water System for specific assessment copies.
