Little Hocking Water/sewer Association Municipal Water Report Info

The Little Hocking Water Association is a customer-owned non-profit organization incorporated on May 23, 1968. Initially established to serve 364 homes, the association has expanded significantly through major and minor developments to become Washington County's largest rural water system.

Currently, Little Hocking Water serves over 4,000 water connections with approximately 12,000 residents. The infrastructure spans 250 miles of water lines, 7 booster pump stations, 8 water storage tanks, and 4 water wells. As mandated by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the water undergoes chlorine and fluoride treatment.

The association is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors elected on a rotating basis at the Annual Meeting held on the first Monday in March. Board members are chosen by community members/customers who are in good standing and have voting rights at the annual gathering. This meeting not only facilitates board elections but also provides an opportunity for customers to learn about system operations.

Little Hocking Water is a proud member of the Ohio Rural Water Association (ORWA), formerly known as Ohio Association of Rural Water Systems (OARWS), which they joined in February 1977. This membership provides access to valuable technical assistance at no cost and connects them to statewide and national advocacy for rural water system health and tax regulations.

Public participation and comments are welcomed at regular meetings held at the Association office on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 PM. The office is located in Little Hocking across from the U.S. Post Office.

Their water source consists of groundwater from four wells in the Porterfield area. The water is extracted, treated with chlorine and fluoride, then pumped directly into the distribution system and storage tanks located in Gentry Heights and on the Watson farm above Porterfield. These wells draw from the Ohio River Valley Aquifer, which consists of layers of rock, sand, and gravel that store water.

Ohio CDC Tap Water Info

For more information on your municipal water, visit the U.S. CDC:

Little Hocking Water/sewer Association Municipal Water Company and CDC
  1. Who do I contact if there's a water main break? During regular business hours, call the Coralville Water Plant at 319.248.1770 or Utility Billing at 319.248.1715. For after-hours water emergencies, call 319.530.6225.
  2. What should I check if my water pressure is low?
    • Water softener issues: The most common cause of pressure problems is aging resin in water softeners. As resin deteriorates, it becomes gelatinous and restricts water flow. Try opening the bypass valve to see if pressure improves.
    • Plumbing valve problems: Older shut-off valves can break in positions that limit water flow, especially after maintenance work. Properly functioning valves should turn easily.
    • Faucet aerator blockages: Screens should be periodically checked for rust debris or calcium buildup that can significantly reduce flow.
    • Clogged water filters: All filtration systems require regular maintenance according to manufacturer guidelines.
    • Water meter restrictions: In rare cases, the meter itself might cause flow limitations.
For assistance identifying pressure issues, call the Water Treatment Plant at 319.248.1770 to schedule a home visit.
  3. How will I be notified if my water service is interrupted? For scheduled repairs, the City posts door notifications several days in advance. During emergency repairs like water main breaks, staff must focus on fixing the problem quickly rather than door-to-door notifications. If you have questions about water service interruptions, call the Coralville Water Plant during business hours or the emergency line after hours.
