Warren City PWS

The City of Warren's public water system utilizes surface water drawn from the Mosquito Creek Reservoir. In Ohio's source water assessment framework, all surface waters are considered susceptible to contamination. Surface waters are accessible and can be contaminated by pollutants and pathogens that may reach public intakes with minimal warning time.

Warren's water source protection area faces several challenges including wastewater treatment discharges, residential sewage systems, construction site runoff, urban and agricultural runoff, oil and gas operations, and accidental spills from vehicles and recreational boating. While the City treats water to meet quality standards, no single treatment can address all potential contaminants.

• Inorganic contaminants like salts and metals from natural sources, urban runoff, sewage, and industrial processes
• Pesticides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential usage
• Organic chemical contaminants from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and waste systems
• Radioactive contaminants from natural sources or mining and energy production

EPA regulations limit contaminants in public water systems, while FDA establishes similar protections for bottled water. Some individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants, including immunocompromised persons, cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, elderly people, and infants.
