About Us
The Mantua Township Municipal Utilities Authority proudly presents our 2018 Annual Water Quality Report. This comprehensive document aims to keep residents informed about water quality and daily services. Our water system includes a 1 Million Gallon Storage Tank located at Main Street and Barnsboro. The MTMUA Board Members and staff encourage all customers to help protect our valuable water resources, which sustain our community's way of life and future generations.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has completed a Source Water Assessment Report for our public water system, available at www.state.nj.us/dep/swap or by contacting NJDEP's Bureau of Safe Drinking Water at (609) 292-5550. Questions about the report can be directed to swap@dep.state.nj.us.
To ensure tap water safety, the EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems. Similarly, FDA regulations set contaminant limits for bottled water to provide equivalent public health protection. The Mantua Twp. MUA is pleased to report that our municipal water meets or exceeds all Federal and State requirements. While our monitoring has detected some substances, the EPA has determined these levels ARE SAFE. The attached "Table of Detected Contaminants" lists these substances with their levels and Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs).

The Municipal Utilities Authority was established to develop, maintain and expand a safe water and sanitary sewer system within Mantua Township, New Jersey. The Authority's primary mission is providing residents with safe municipal water and sanitary sewer services in an economically sustainable manner.
General Information
Mantua Township was established by the New Jersey Legislature on February 23, 1853, from portions of Greenwich Township. Spanning 16 square miles in southeastern Philadelphia with 15,217 residents (2010 Census), the Township is primarily residential. Its central location in Gloucester County offers convenient access to major highways, facilitating commutes to Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, New York City, and the Jersey Shore.
The Mantua Township Municipal Utilities Authority (MTMUA) was created on April 10, 1973, through a Township Ordinance under New Jersey State Municipal Utilities Authorities Law. As an independent authority, MTMUA has extensive powers including property management, bond issuance, fee collection, infrastructure maintenance, and regulatory enforcement. Connection fees are structured according to State requirements to ensure new customers contribute fairly to previously incurred capital costs.
Governance
The Authority is governed by a five-member board with two alternates, each appointed to five-year staggered terms by the Mantua Township Council. Current board members, professional service providers, and vendors paid over $17,500 in the previous fiscal year are listed on the Authority's website. MTMUA currently employs 12 full-time and 1 part-time staff members.
