The Morris County MUA is proud to present our Annual Water Quality Report for 2018. This document includes comprehensive water quality monitoring results from our facilities for your awareness and confidence.

Our mission has always been to deliver safe, reliable water to our community. Morris County MUA operates exclusively as a bulk water supplier, utilizing groundwater as our source. We treat this water with sodium hypochlorite for disinfection and lime for pH balance to ensure optimal quality.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has completed a Source Water Assessment Report for our system, available at www.state.nj.us/dep/swap/ or by contacting NJDEP's Bureau of Safe Drinking Water at 609-292-5550.

For questions about this report, please contact our Superintendent of Water Operations, Anthony Milonas at (973-584-5503). We encourage our valued customers to stay informed about their water quality. Regular meetings are held that the public can attend – call (973-285-8385) for schedules.

All drinking water, including bottled varieties, may contain small amounts of certain contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-877-927-6337).

Water sources (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals, sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity.

Potential contaminants in source water include:

  • Microbial contaminants from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
  • Inorganic contaminants like salts and metals, occurring naturally or from urban runoff, industrial waste, oil/gas production, or farming
  • Organic chemical contaminants from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, stormwater, and septic systems
  • Radioactive contaminants that occur naturally or result from oil/gas production and mining
  • Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential use

To ensure tap water safety, EPA regulations limit certain contaminants in public water systems. FDA regulations establish similar limits for bottled water to provide equal protection.

Morris County MUA routinely monitors for contaminants in accordance with federal and state regulations. Our system has received monitoring waivers for asbestos, volatile organic chemicals, and synthetic organic chemicals, as state law permits less frequent monitoring when concentrations remain stable.
