About Us
IS YOUR TAP WATER SAFE? We're pleased to present Morristown Utility System's 2017 Water Quality Survey. This annual report keeps you, our valued customer, informed about the quality of water delivered to your home daily.
Our primary goal is providing you with safe, reliable municipal water. This report summarizes the quality of water supplied to customers over the past year, including details about water sources, content, and how it compares to regulatory standards.
WATER SOURCE INFORMATION
Morristown draws water from two sources: a surface source at Cherokee Lake/Holston River and a groundwater source called Havely's Spring. These sources are blended before treatment. A wellhead protection policy for the spring is available by contacting Gary Love at Morristown Energy Systems between 6:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays.
We're committed to protecting our water from contaminants and collaborate with the State to determine our water source's vulnerability. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has prepared a Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP) Report for untreated water sources serving this system.
The SWAP Report assesses contamination vulnerability of untreated water. To ensure safety, all public water systems treat and test their water regularly. Our sources are rated as moderately susceptible based on geological factors and human activities near the source.
UNDERSTANDING CONTAMINANTS
All water, including bottled water, can reasonably be expected to contain small amounts of some contaminants. Municipal providers must disclose contaminant detection, while bottled water companies aren't held to this standard. The presence of contaminants doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800-426-4791).
