About Us
This report provides an overview of the water that San Dieguito Water District supplied in 2017. It includes essential information about water sources, content analysis, and comparison with regulatory standards.
Water Sources: The San Dieguito Water District and Santa Fe Irrigation District jointly own and operate the R.E. Badger Filtration Plant, which processes both imported and local water. Imported water comes through a pipeline from Lake Skinner in Hemet, containing a blend from the Colorado River and Sacramento River Delta via the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD). Local water originates from Lake Hodges, transferred either through the San Dieguito Reservoir or directly via the Cielo Pump Station.
Source Assessment: Local water sources are vulnerable to agricultural and urban stormwater runoff. The Watershed Sanitary Survey is available for review at the treatment facility. MWD's 2010-2011 assessments of Colorado River sources identified vulnerabilities from recreation, urban runoff, increasing watershed urbanization, and wastewater. State Water Project sources face risks from urban runoff, wildlife, agriculture, recreation, and wastewater.
Water Safety: Your tap water met or exceeded all U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and State Water Resources Control Board health standards. While all water naturally contains some contaminants, their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. Immunocompromised individuals, including cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, some elderly individuals, and infants may require additional precautions regarding drinking water.
