Wall Twp Water Department

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has conducted an assessment of water resources supplying public water systems throughout New Jersey, including Wall Township Water Department. This assessment aims to evaluate each system's vulnerability to contamination, not actual contaminants in your water system.

The evaluation of the Wall Township Water Department included:

• Identifying the source water assessment area supplying your municipal water
• Cataloging potential contamination sources within this area
• Analyzing how susceptible your water supply is to these potential contaminants

The DEP examined all public water systems for vulnerability to eight contamination categories. These categories and results for your system are detailed on page three, with a map of your water system's source assessment area on page four.

A public water system's susceptibility rating (Low, Moderate, or High) combines two factors:

• The sensitivity of your water supply to contaminants (shallow wells or reservoirs are more exposed than deep wells)
• The frequency of contaminant presence near the source (known as "intensity of usage")

Your annual Consumer Confidence Report contains important information about your water quality test results as required by federal Safe Drinking Water Act regulations.

Water Sources

Municipal water comes from two main sources: groundwater and surface water. Groundwater collects beneath the Earth's surface in aquifers that supply wells and springs. New Jersey wells range from 15 to 2,500 feet deep. Surface water includes streams, lakes, and reservoirs that collect precipitation. These sources can interact, with groundwater feeding streams or surface water replenishing aquifers under certain conditions.

Water Quality Protection

The DEP maintains several programs to protect water quality, including the Safe Drinking Water Program ensuring all municipal water meets health standards. Additional permitting, waste management and cleanup initiatives work to prevent and control potential contamination sources. Source Water Assessment area protections are being implemented gradually to enhance existing safeguards.

   While municipal water meets safety standards, home filtration can address aesthetic concerns like taste, odor, and hardness, plus provide additional protection against contaminants of emerging concern.
