About Us
In accordance with State and Federal regulations, the Town of Wallkill annually issues a comprehensive report describing the quality of municipal water for the Woodland Acres Water Program. This report aims to enhance your understanding of tap water quality and emphasize the importance of protecting our water sources.
We're pleased to report that last year, your tap water met all State health requirements with no violations of maximum contaminant levels or other water quality standards. During the past year, we conducted tests for over 60 different contaminants and found none at levels exceeding state limits.
If you have questions about this report or your municipal water, please contact Tim Grogan, Water and Sewer Administrator, at 342-1668. We encourage residents to stay informed about their water supply by attending Town Board meetings held at 7:30pm on the fourth Thursday of each month. If unable to attend, you can watch meetings on Spectrum channel 23. Water Board meeting schedules are announced during Town Board meetings.
WATER SOURCE INFORMATION
Our municipal water comes from underground sources. As water travels over land or through the ground, it dissolves naturally occurring minerals and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activities. To ensure safety, both State and EPA regulations limit contaminant levels in public water systems, similar to FDA regulations for bottled water.
On August 18, 2017, the Woodland Acres Pump House and wells were permanently disconnected, and the system was integrated into Consolidated Water District #1. The information in this report covers Woodland Acres Water District from January 1 to August 18, 2017. For information after that date through December 31, 2017, please refer to the Annual Water Quality Report for Consolidated Water District #1.
Prior to the change, your water supply consisted of two six-inch groundwater wells approximately 180 feet deep. Water was pumped from these wells to a pressure tank that also served as a chlorine contact chamber, where disinfection occurred. The Woodland Acres Water System served approximately 38 connections and about 144 individuals, delivering an average of 5,450 gallons daily. In 2017, the annual water charge was $2.50 per thousand gallons.
