About Us
The San Marino Water System primarily relies on groundwater sources from the Main San Gabriel and Raymond Basins. Since both basins have regulated groundwater usage, additional supplies are necessary to meet seasonal and annual demand.
These supplementary water resources are purchased from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWDSC). The San Marino system receives treated surface water from MWDSC's Weymouth Treatment Plant, which draws raw surface water from two main sources: the Sacramento River Delta and Colorado River. This water travels to Los Angeles via the California Aqueduct (State Water Project) and the Colorado River Aqueduct.
Treatment processes for the imported water include flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. Groundwater supplies undergo chlorine disinfection while surface water is treated with chloramines to maintain bacteriological quality throughout the distribution system. In 2017, the San Marino Water System supply consisted of 90% local well water and 10% treated surface water from MWDSC.
California American Water distributes water for residential and commercial use throughout San Marino and portions of Rosemead, Temple City, San Gabriel, El Monte, Pasadena, and unincorporated Los Angeles County areas. For additional information, please visit the websites listed in the Water Information Sources section for California American Water and the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
