Municipal Water Utility Company FAQ

North Carolina CDC Tap Water Info

For more information on your municipal water, visit the U.S. CDC:

Elizabeth City Municipal Water Company and CDC
  1. How often are meters read? Residential meters are read quarterly in January, April, July, and October. Commercial meters are read monthly.
  2. Why must I pay a Facility Fee despite minimal water usage? Your bill consists of a facility fee and water usage charge. The facility fee covers costs for maintaining water supply, treatment processes, and distribution infrastructure serving your property. This fee appears on every bill based on your meter size and flow capacity. The usage fee reflects actual water consumption in thousands of gallons.
  3. What happens if my bill remains unpaid after the due date? A Final Notice will be sent requesting payment. If payment or arrangements aren't made within 10 days of this notice, service will be terminated.
  4. How can I verify if my water is scheduled for disconnection due to non-payment? Contact Customer Service to speak with a representative about your account status.
  5. Are there fees to reconnect service after non-payment interruption? Yes, you must pay your full balance plus a $25.00 disconnection fee and $25.00 reconnection fee. Note that according to company regulations, a $150.00 reconnection fee applies if service has been terminated for 30+ days.
  6. How do I restore water service after an interruption for non-payment? Contact Customer Service for your total amount due. Once full payment is received and a work order issued, service will be restored within 24 hours.
  7. Can I restore my own water service? No, this constitutes tampering with the system. If unauthorized restoration is detected, service will be interrupted again, tampering fees ($75.00) will be applied in addition to standard fees, and legal action may be pursued for theft of service.
  8. What should I do if I didn't receive a water bill? Contact Customer Service at (302) 947-9600 or email info@longneckwater.com.
  9. What if I believe my water bill is incorrect? Contact Customer Service to discuss your concerns. You may schedule an appointment with a technician to verify meter readings and review usage history. If still dissatisfied, you can request meter testing. If tests show the meter meets Public Service Commission guidelines, you'll be charged a fee based on meter size.
  10. How do I get information about my water quality? Contact our office at (302) 947-9600 to request the most recent Water Quality Report or download it from our website.
