About Us
The Gregg Stabler Water Plant operates at an average of 9.37 million gallons daily with peak production reaching 12.73 mg. Despite increasing customer numbers, water consumption continues its decade-long downward trend, largely attributed to water-efficient fixtures and improved conservation practices.
Davidson Water has maintained full compliance with all state-mandated testing requirements. We've partnered with the North Carolina Rural Water Association to provide advanced training for our staff. Operational improvements to our dechlorination process have generated annual savings exceeding $25,000.
A major infrastructure project currently underway is the $2.35 million rehabilitation of 12 filters at the CO Pickle Water Treatment Plant. This includes recoating tube gallery infrastructure and installing new under-drain and air scour systems, with "Substantial Completion" achieved on February 9, 2018.
Our distribution system has been enhanced with 10.08 miles of line upgrades, extensions, and relocations. Projects included work on Fairview Chapel Road, Riverside & River Shore Drive, Georgetown Road, and Voncannon Mobile Home Park. We've completed three NC DOT relocation projects and supported 8 subdivision expansions.
The $6.5 million Hyattown Pump Station upgrade features more efficient pumps, improved electrical equipment, enhanced backup power generation, and expanded piping capacity projected to serve community needs through 2060. Design work has begun on a new Hargrave Road pump station and a 24" transmission line from Tyro.
Our meter division installed 3,452 radio-read meters last year, bringing our system total to 46,975. We expect to complete conversion to AMR (Automatic Meter Read) technology by end of 2019, improving accuracy and billing efficiency.
Customer service has evolved with 12% of bills now delivered electronically and over 50% of transactions processed digitally. We sent 71,674 bill notices via email, plus 775 high-usage alerts helping customers identify potential leaks. Our courtesy notification system sent 7,455 emails to customers at risk of disconnection.
We've implemented significant security upgrades, including the Perch monitoring service which scans network traffic for threats. Website improvements enhance customer interface and staff information access, with features like coded payment links that eliminate login requirements.
Our employees continue demonstrating community commitment through record United Way contributions exceeding $9,000, plus 795 pounds of food and $435 in cash donations to Greater Points Outreach Center. Staff also provided nearly $1,800 in Christmas gifts through partnerships with local schools, First National Bank, and Samaritan's Purse.

Davidson Water Inc. Municipal Water Company and EPADavidson Water Inc. Municipal Water Report Info
Davidson Water, Inc. has provided quality municipal water for over 50 years. Originally established as North Davidson Water, Inc. in 1968, the organization was founded by five visionaries who recognized that reliable, safe water was essential for community development and improved quality of life.
The company secured a groundbreaking $3.68 million loan from Farmers Home Administration (now USDA) to construct a 2-million-gallon daily treatment facility on the Yadkin River, with pipelines serving approximately 2,800 residents and businesses. This loan was the largest of its kind at that time.
North Davidson Water helped launch four additional systems (West Davidson, East Central, Hasty and Wallburg) before merging with these entities in 1973 to form Davidson Water, Inc. The combined organization quickly became America's largest rural water system and established itself as a model for similar utilities nationwide.
Today, Davidson Water maintains its core mission of providing safe, reliable municipal water at the lowest possible cost. The utility now manages assets exceeding $146 million and serves 62,000 connections through 1,900 miles of pipeline covering 578 square miles, with treatment capacity of 27 million gallons daily. The company remains dedicated to supporting regional economic development through reliable water service.
