About Us
Introduction
From January 1 through January 31, 2017, the Village of Glenview Water Supply (PWSID IL0311020) has successfully met or exceeded all United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and Illinois state water quality standards. This Consumer Confidence Water Quality Report is mandated annually by USEPA regulations. It summarizes the quality of water supplied last year, including details about your water source, composition, regulatory compliance, and contact information for questions.

Water Source and Distribution
The Village of Glenview purchases all water from the Village of Wilmette. Wilmette's treatment facility draws raw water from Lake Michigan, processes it at their lakefront plant, and pumps it through their distribution network. Additional storage includes a 4-million-gallon standpipe and a 3-million-gallon underground reservoir-pumping station located in west Wilmette, maintaining system pressure and providing consistent water flow to Glenview.
Treatment Process
The facility employs a combination of chemical treatments, settling basins, and filtration systems to reduce all contaminants below regulatory thresholds. Free chlorine residuals are maintained throughout the system to prevent bacterial growth. Operators monitor the system continuously, with 24/7 staffing year-round. The plant maintains an Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) certified laboratory for bacterial testing.
The Village of Glenview operates five major pumping stations that distribute water across two separate pressure zones. The Glenview system's total water storage capacity is 16.3 million gallons, delivered through more than 230 miles of water mains.

Glenview Municipal Water Company and EPASource Water Assessment
The Illinois EPA considers all surface water sources supplying community systems potentially vulnerable to contamination. Surface water intakes lack natural protection and rely primarily on dilution. Wilmette's intakes are positioned far enough offshore that shoreline impacts aren't considered significant factors affecting water quality. However, during certain seasons, contamination risks exist from wet-weather flows through the North Shore Channel.
Water Contaminant Information
To ensure tap water safety, the USEPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems. FDA regulations set similar limits for bottled water to provide equivalent public health protection. Drinking water sources (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land surfaces or through ground layers, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals, sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal or human activities.
