How do I start new water, wastewater and/or stormwater service?

The New Haven utility process requires submitting a "Request for Service" with:

  • Property address
  • Property owner's name
  • Date of birth
  • Contact number
  • Purchase/rental status
  • Closing/possession date

A deposit is collected after closing, typically within the first week of service. This deposit is refunded after 24 months of on-time payments. New customers must arrange trash service directly through Republic Services (1-800-876-9001), which bills customers separately from the City of New Haven.

How do I disconnect my water, wastewater and/or stormwater service?

The outgoing customer or seller must request a final meter reading to transfer service. This typically coincides with the new customer's move-in date. A forwarding address will be needed for the final bill. Any remaining deposit will be refunded after the final balance reaches zero. The seller should also contact Republic Services (1-800-876-9001) to cancel trash service.

Why is my water off?

Water service may be interrupted due to:

  • Water main break
  • Non-payment
  • Account never established
