About Us
Rockaway Township Municipal Utility takes pride in presenting our 2017 Water Quality Statement covering water testing from the 2016 calendar year. We provide this annual report to share essential information about your water supply. The report confirms that Rockaway Township continues to deliver safe, high-quality municipal water to our customers.
Our water comes from the Stratified Flow Aquifer via three groundwater treatment facilities. Four wells are situated along Green Pond Road, with an additional four wells located in the Fox Hills Senior Development on Mt. Hope Avenue. Over the past five years, our Utility has averaged pumping 1.40 million gallons daily through our treatment plants into our distribution network and storage tanks. We also purchase water from the Town of Dover to supplement our supply.
Like bottled water, well water can contain contaminants. In the early 1980s, two of our three township wells were contaminated by volatile organics from industrial sources. The Township ensures excellent water quality through treatment methods including air stripping, carbon filtration, and chlorine disinfection. These processes allow us to provide water that exceeds State and Federal Standards.
Security is a priority for our water system. We've implemented measures to protect facilities from vandalism and potential threats. If you notice suspicious activity near our facilities, unauthorized hydrant use, or encounter individuals without proper identification, please contact the Utility at 1-973-983-2825 or Police at 1-973-625-4000.
Our regular hydrant flushing program helps maintain water quality by removing sediment from water mains and ensures hydrants function properly in case of fire emergencies. Flushing will occur in these areas: May & June Commons Way, Round Hill Drive, Green Pond Rd from Round Hill to Sanders Rd. and surrounding hydrants.
