About Us
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and South Carolina Division of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) have established rigorous standards for all water systems producing water for consumption and other uses. These standards protect consumers from bacteria and waterborne illnesses.
To safeguard customers and all water users, Easley Combined Utility Water Treatment Plant Staff and SCDHEC conduct thousands of tests for various parameters. Results are detailed in this report, with most tests performed by SCDHEC. Additional analyses are conducted by Easley Combined Utilities in our SCDHEC-certified laboratory and other private facilities.
The 2017 Water Quality Report demonstrates that Easley Combined Utilities' Surface water treatment processes exceed chemical requirements for all users. Most importantly, the water is pure and safe to drink.
Water Source Information: Easley Combined Utilities draws raw water from Saluda Lake in Pickens County. Supplemental treated water is available from the Greenville Water System when needed. Greenville supplies water from Lake Keowee for special events, plant maintenance, and as a supplemental hydrant. No water was purchased from Greenville Water System in 2017.
Treatment Process: At the Don T Moore Treatment Plant, chlorine is first added to kill harmful bacteria and waterborne diseases. Alum and caustic are added for clarification to remove cloudiness. The water passes through settling basins allowing contaminants to settle, then through sand and anthracite filters to remove remaining turbidity. Post-treatment includes additional chlorine for disinfection, caustic soda to adjust pH to around 7.2, fluoride addition, and polyphosphate for corrosion control.
South Carolina Certified Environmental Systems Operators rigorously maintain and monitor the treatment plant, performing routine chemical and physical tests. Water purchased from Greenville Water System undergoes similar treatment methods.
Microbiological Information: Cryptosporidium, a microbial parasite found in surface waters throughout the United States, is removed through filtration but standard methods cannot guarantee 100% removal. Monthly testing by Greenville Water System found no cryptosporidium or giardia in raw or treated water.
